CHRISTIANS & HALLOWEEN
The Bible does not record Christians, or anyone else who confesses to being a follower of God, celebrating any form of All-Hallows-Eve or Halloween in the Old or New Testaments. Minimalizing Halloween doesn’t change the spiritual influence of the tradition.

Statements like:
- "The church is making a big deal out of nothing."
- "Halloween is what we make it."
 - "I’m dressed up as Mr. Potato Head or as an Angel; that can’t be evil!"
- "I’m not teaching my children to worship the devil by taking them trick-or-treating. It’s all just an innocent family fun time."
have been the general position of many Christians who do not understand the dark origins of this holiday.

HISTORY
The origin of Halloween dates back to over 2,000 years before the time of Christ. It was practiced by the ancient Druids in Britain, France, Germany, and the Celtic (Irish, Scottish, Welsh) countries. The celebration was held to honor their god Samhain (pronounced “sow-en” not “Sam Hain” because the “mh” in the middle of an Irish word has the sound of “w”), the lord of the dead when they called forth a host of evil spirits.
SAMHAIN (SAW-WAIN) - "LORD OF DARKNESS"
So, it turns out that Halloween has a god according to its Druid origins! Samhain was known in Ireland as the "Lord of Darkness." The Druid religion was practiced by ancient Celtic tribes that populated Ireland and parts of Europe. They worshipped Samhain, the Lord of Darkness. Some of their writings also describe Samhain as the "Lord of the Dead."
The Celtics believed that November 1st was the “day of death.” They correlated this with Fall because the crops were harvested, and autumn begins giving a sense of general decay (leaves falling, things dying). Therefore, it was a day to honor Samhain and highlight the gloom and coldness of the season. The falling leaves seemed an appropriate time to celebrate death, especially the god of the dead - Samhain. - MentalFloss.com
It was believed and taught by Druids that on October 31st, Samhain called together all the wicked souls that had died within the past twelve months. These departed souls would have been condemned to inhabit the bodies of animals (hence the origin of animal sacrifice to free them). These souls of the dead demanded to be appeased by the living through food, shelter, and sacrifice. If adequate food, shelter, and sacrifice were not provided, these evil spirits would cast spells, cause havoc and terror, and haunt and torment the living. If a sacrifice was not willingly provided, the home was cursed by placing a six-pointed star in a circle upon the door. An evil spirit would use this as a point of entrance to take the victim's life. This drawing of the hexagram is where we get our phrase "putting a hex on someone."

Druids believed human sacrifice offered the ultimate appeasement of Samhain. After the human sacrifice, a giant pumpkin was hallowed out, Samhain's smiling face carved into it, and a candle of human tallow (Body fat) was placed inside. - Gene Aven "Halloween"

The "Jack-O-Lantern" was the ancient symbol of a damned soul. The name was derived from a man named Jack, who was believed to be wandering to find a place of rest. He is wandering in darkness with his lantern until Judgement Day. Since there was much superstition, the people would carve out pumpkins or turnips and place candles in them to ward off the evil spirits.

** So, whether we look at the historical origin of Halloween or the way it is celebrated today in our culture, there is still a clear connection to death, fear, and darkness.
HALLOWEEN COLORS
DECORATING WITH BLACK AND ORANGE the classic Halloween colors can also trace their origins back to the Celtic festival Samhain. Black represents the “death” of summer, while orange is emblematic of the autumn harvest season.

For the Celts, who were Druids, Halloween is a Ritual (Actually a Pagan Fall Festival to honor their Lord of Death).
     - Ritual: A religious or solemn ceremony consisting of actions performed according to a prescribed order.  (Buying candy & Costumes, etc., in preparation for trick or treating) - Druid Halloween Ceremonies Gene Aven "Halloween"
A FAMILY FUN EVENT
Anton LaVey, the founder of the church of Satan, himself declared that dressing up, either by wearing a costume or by coloring oneself in celebration of Halloween, signifies that you allow Satan to own you. He further said that when you adopt pagan practices, you subconsciously dedicate yourself to the devil. He took joy in Christians who take part in the tradition, saying:
“I am glad that Christian parents let their children worship the devil at least one night out of the year. Welcome to Halloween.”

TOUCHING DARKNESS
LaVey’s statement is corroborated by a former Satanist, John Ramirez, who said that when you dress up even as an angel or a mermaid for Halloween, “you give the devil the legal rights to change your identity.” Ramirez further warned that Halloween is a darker reality than costumes and candy.

The former Satanist turned Christian pastor said in an interview on CBS News (October 20, 2018): - “I was a general to the kingdom of darkness in witchcraft. I would sit with the devil and talk to him like I’m talking to you today. It was that kind of communication. It was that kind of relationship.” - Meer.com

WALK IN THE LIGHT
As children of the light, we should walk in the light!
Ephesians 5:8 (NLT)
-  For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So, live as people of light!
Deuteronomy 18:9-12 (KJV)
- 9. When thou art come into the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations. 10. There shall not be found among you anyone that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, 11. Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. 12. For all that do these things are an abomination unto the Lord: and because of these abominations the Lord thy God doth drive them out from before thee.
Galatians 5:16-21 (NIV)
- 16. So, I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want: 18. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. 19. The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20. idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21. and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
PRAY FOR GOD'S WISDOM
Pray for God's wisdom on this matter. Pray for those you may know who practice any of the Halloween activities. Give them this information to help them better understand what they are linking themselves and others to. Be the light.
